What to Do With a Box of Old Photos
There’s something both comforting and overwhelming about opening a box of old family photos. You might be looking for one image in particular — or just hoping to finally “get through” the whole collection. But where do you even start?
The first thing to know is: you don’t have to do it all at once.
Start by pulling out a few photos that stand out. A moment that makes you smile, a person you don’t want to forget, or an image that feels like a mystery. Set those aside in a small stack. That’s the beginning of your archive.
If you can, label what you know — names, dates, places. Don’t worry about making it perfect. Even a few notes in pencil or on a sticky note can preserve knowledge that would otherwise be lost.
From there, it’s okay to scan just one photo at a time. A single digital file can spark a story, a memory, or a connection to share. And once it’s scanned, it’s safe.
At Lineo Studios, we help people take this first step — and the next ones — whether you want to preserve a few special images or create something more lasting. You can start small. The important part is starting.
